Education For Seniors Who Receive Social Security

Education For Seniors Who Receive Social Security
By Will Stone

The incoming president, Barack Obama, has the opportunity to help the social security system and help it quickly. There are myths out that cause those on social security to stop working and that is causing more of a drain on the economy than one would think.

A social security recipient working contributes to the very system that is paying him or her. by them not working, it causes the system to be upside down and not receiving the maximum income possible from the workforce that is available to contribute. Although there is unemployment, there are still plenty of jobs that would fit the workforce coming from this group... jobs that would not work for the 35 year old father of 3 that has a car payment and a mortgage.

At age 62, a person can begin receiving social security and often times, they think that if they collect, they can not work. That is a myth that needs to be dispelled. If you earn over $13,560.00 annually, your check will be reduced but not if you earn under that amount and you do get that money back at a certain point.

That causes an awful lot of people to stop working altogether and initiates a drain on our economy and hurts the retiree in their ability to maintain a lifestyle that they had become accosted to while gainfully employed. It also affects their mental psyche as a lot of people feel as though they are no longer a productive member of society if they are not at least working to some extent.

The Social Security administration can effectively help them selves if they advertise the above facts as well as let the recipients know this little know fact:

Once you reach full retirement age, that could be between 65 and 67, you will receive the money you lost out by earning over the allotted amount as Social Security will increase your check.

The new administration can effectively help it's cause and look like a hero with some education to the recipients of Social Security by educating them when they meet a recipient face to face, via mailings and updating the Social Security website to explain this in a way that is simple to understand.

So, Mr. President, take advantage of this gimme putt and put this information in play and out there for the citizens you serve so they can help themselves and our country out of this situation.
